How To Become a Range Forest Officer in Kerala?

Many students asked about the selection procedure for a Range Forest Officer in the Kerala Forests and Wildlife Department. Let me answer them in this post.

To become a Range Forest Officer in Kerala, you must clear the PSC examination conducted for the post and complete the necessary training. I will explain the complete process in this article.

I recommend my students go through the steps to become Range Forest Officers in the Kerala Forests and Wildlife Department.

  1. Pass the PSC examination

  2. Complete the Range Forest Officers Course in any one of the institutions under the Director of Forestry Education.

  3. Complete one year of practical training.

After these three steps, the Director of Forestry Education( Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India) will select you as a Range Forest Officer.

  2. Age Limit For Range Forest Officer

    The Range Forest Officer exam notification mentions the age limit for the general category as 19 to 31. Check the table for the upper-age relaxation of OBC and SC/ST.

  3. Minimum Physical Eligibility To Apply For Range Forest Officer

    The Public Service Commission will check the physical measurements during the selection process. I will list the minimum physical qualification required.

    1. Minimum Height For Female and Male Range Forest Officers

Kerala Range Forest Officer Selection Pattern

The Public Service Commission conducts a four-stage process to recruit Range Forest Officers for the Kerala Forest Department. Let me explain the stages.

  1. Range Forest Officer Preliminary Exam (Screening Test)

    The first stage is an objective type screening test. Candidates should answer 100 objective-type questions (OMR Test), and everyone who scored the cut-off mark can go to the next stage.

  2. Walking Test

    The second stage is a walking test. In the walking test, male candidates must cover a distance of 25 (twenty-five) kilometers within four hours on foot, and women candidates must cover 16 (sixteen) Kilometers on foot within 4 hours. 

  3. Kerala Range Forest Officer Descriptive Main Exam

    The Public Service Commission allows candidates who passed the walking test for the Range Forest Officer competitive examination. It is a descriptive type.

    Check the table for the compulsory and optional subjects with mark distribution.

    General Knowledge 100 marks
    English (Essay and Precis writing etc) 100 marks
    Optional Subjects
    Any two subjects out of the following list 200 marks each

    Here is the list of optional subjects for the Kerala Range Forest Officer Descriptive examination.

    Science Agriculture, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Application/ Computer Science, Environmental Science, Forestry, Geology, Horticulture, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Veterinary Science, Zoology
    Engineering Agricultural/ Chemical/ Civil/ Computer/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Mechanical

    No candidate shall be allowed to take more than one subject of the following groups.

    • Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering and Veterinary Science

    • Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

    • Computer Application/Computer Science and Computer Engineering

    • Electrical Engineering and Electronics Engineering.

    • Mathematics and Statistics

    Optional subjects selected for examination should be specifically noted on the application. Otherwise, PSC will reject your application.

  4. Interview

    The final stage of the Range Forest Officer selection for the Kerala Forest Department is an Interview.

Monthly Salary Of a Range Forest Officer in Kerala

The basic pay of a Range Forest Officer in Kerala is 55200 - 115300 Indian Rupees per month. The monthly salary includes other benefits like DA, TA, Medical Allowance, Uniform Allowance, etc.
