Kerala PSC Last Grade Servant (LGS) Appointment Examination

Most people think the LGS staff in various Kerala government departments are temporary employees. Even many students in our institute also had the same concept. The truth is that the Kerala PSC conducts the LGS examination and selects those staff as permanent government employees.

I will explain how to become a Kerala Government employee through the Kerala PSC LGS examination. I will also explain how the GJR Institute helped many students pass the LGS examination on their first attempt.

PSC has announced the latest Last Grade Servants (LGS) recruitment in various government departments in Kerala. Kerala Last Grade Servants Appointment is a district wise recruitment. According to the PSC guidelines, applicants must not apply to multiple districts. We will check who can apply for the LGS examination (PSC guidelines).

1. Kerala LGS Age Limit

   The Age limit to apply for the Last Grade Servant jobs in Kerala by general category is 18-36 years. Upper age relaxation is allowed for OBC and SC/ST candidates. If you belong to OBC or SC/T, check this table for the maximum upper age relaxation.

2. Kerala LGS Job Educational Qualification

   The Public Service Commission will accept LGS applications from candidates who satisfy the following educational requirements.

   • The candidates must have a standard VII pass.

   • Anyone with a graduation is ineligible to apply.

3. The Minimum Physical Eligibility For Kerala LGS Jobs

   A few posts( belong to the Last Grade Servant category ) demand a minimum physical fitness. The Kerala PSC will notify such jobs, and the candidates must check for their physical fitness with a recognized authority.

I explained that the Kerala PSC fills the permanent Last Grade Servant jobs. Kerala PSC announces district wise LGS recruitment notification. After the exam, they prepare a rank list (based on the written test mark). The Public Service Commission will prepare a separate rank list for each district.

I understand that our students are eager to learn the LGS employee salary. According to the PSC notification, the pay scale of an LGS staff is 23,000 -50200 Indian Rupees. It is the basic pay, and an LGS staff will get extra benefits like DA, TA, HRA, etc.

Another question my students asked me is about the duties and responsibilities of a Last Grade Servant in government departments. The answer depends on the department in which an LGS works.

Mostly, the duties are cleaning, watchman, Lascar, gatekeeper, etc. The Cleaner Cum Conductor job comes under the LGS. So, all physical work comes under the job profile of an LGS. If you are not interested in them, LGS is not for you.
