How To Become a Kerala Civil Excise Officer?
To become a Civil Excise Officer in Kerala, you must pass the relevant PSC examination. It is an OMR exam, and I will explain the exam pattern in this article. I will also share the exam preparation steps we follow at GJR Institute.
Kerala Civil Excise Officer Selection Procedure
Many students in our new batch have asked me about the exact selection process for a Civil Excise Officer in the Kerala Excise Department. I will answer it here. It is a district-wise selection, and the PSC will publish a separate rank list for each district.
Kerala Public Service Commission selects a Civil Excise Officer through a three-stage process. They are:
Written Examination
It is an objective type examination (OMR) with 100 questions. I will provide the exam pattern and syllabus later.
Endurance Test
The second stage is an endurance test. Those who scored the Civil Excise Officer Written test cut off mark will get an invitation for the endurance test. The PSC will pass candidates who covered 2.5km in 13 minutes.
Physical Efficiency Test
The third stage is a physical efficiency test. It is different for male and female candidates. I will explain it later.

Minimum Physical Qualifications
The Required Physical Qualifications for a Male Civil Excise Officer
A male candidate must have a minimum of 165 cm height. He must have 81 cm around the chest with an expansion of 5 cm.
The Minimum Physical Qualifications for a Woman Civil Excise Officer
A female candidate with a minimum of 152 cm can apply. An SC/ST woman candidate requires 150 cm only.

What are the Duties of a Civil Excise Officer?
The Kerala Excise Department collects Excise Revenue for the state and enforces various Excise Acts. It is a law enforcement agency that controls the manufacturing and distribution of alcohol and other Intoxicating Drugs.

Civil Excise Officer is the new name given to Excise Guard, and they are the lowest-ranking enforcement officers in the department. Excise Guards ( older name of Civil Excise Officer ) can arrest anyone who committed an offense in a public place against the Abkari Acts.
